Project Summary
In 1994-95, I partnered with a friend, Todd Williams, and my girlfriend at that time, Amy Mabli in growing and developing an early web design and development shop, Phase.Net. The business suffered from typical startup issues (egotistical owner, no clear vision, uncertain funding) and eventually went under after 2 years. Nevertheless, it was an amazing learning experience and was honestly exciting. This home page was live for several months during the earliest stage of the business. It was eventually replaced by a design from Amy Mabli that fully leveraged the capabilities of Netscape Navigator 2.0.

Goals
This design was for the original home page for Phase.Net. It was our goal to create a science fiction feel with a definite edge to it.
Challenges
At the time of this design, javascript had not yet been implemented and Flash was still known as Future Splash, so the technology to support an interactive design was limited. As such, we choose an image map solution. The largest challenge was compressing the image down to the point that a typical (at that time) 9600 to 14.4 modem could download it.
Results
The design was completed and uploaded. With this simple image in place, Phase.Net and more importantly the people that made it up, took their first steps into a new medium.
