In May of 2002, my team launched a significant effort to win more internal business. Previously, Verizon marketing and communications worked with external agencies such as Circle.com and DraftWorldwide for their design and development efforts. The first project we landed was a microsite for Verizon Phonemarts.
Goals
Business is all about relationships. Knowing this, I focused upon delivering a outstanding project earlier than plan (15% earlier) and less than budget (-$7500). To win more business, I had to be better, faster, and cheaper than the competition.
Challenges
The largest challenge was overcoming the political silos that define Verizon. Getting the various political tribes to "play nice" was a significant challenge.
Results
The microsite was design and developed, with database integration, earlier than plan. It was launched in late 2002.
