Project Summary
As a fine art photographer, very few things are more valuable to me than my negatives. On May 5, 1995, a massive storm struck the DFW area. Before my eyes, a torrent of water exceeding 5 feet flowed through my studio. I spent over an hour holding open the doors to my studio as thousands of gallons of water rushed by me at chest height. Once the water died down I entered what remained of my studio. The fireproof cabinet in which I stored my precious negatives was flooded completely. Opening the door revealed thousands of negatives soaked completely in dirty water.
Goals
To salvage and display what remained from the flood. In essence, to present a simple tale of a photographer and the lasting impact of a flood.
Results
The site, which is under reconstruction, served as a form of art therapy. It allowed me to create from the destruction that surrounded me.
